Aspect
The angular distance between two points in the sky (or two charts), measured in degrees along the zodiac -- the basis for reading how two planets interact.
An aspect is a measurable angle -- nothing more mystical than that. Take the ecliptic longitude of two planets, find the difference, and you have an aspect.
Certain angles recur often enough, and are treated as meaningfully distinct, that they've been given names: conjunction (0°), sextile (60°), square (90°), trine (120°), and opposition (180°). Each is covered on its own page in this glossary.
Aspects rarely land on the angle exactly. Astrologers work with an "orb," a margin of degrees on either side of the exact angle that still counts. See Orb for how that works.
On this site, aspects show up in two places: the daily Transits page lists the notable aspects active right now between planets, and the Compatibility pages use the same angular logic applied to fixed sign positions instead of moving planets.
