Ruling Planet
The planet traditionally associated with a zodiac sign, whose movements are read as especially relevant to that sign.
Each of the twelve signs has a traditional ruling planet -- Mars for Aries, Venus for Taurus, Mercury for Gemini, and so on. The idea is that a sign's ruling planet's current position and behavior (which sign it's in, whether it's retrograde, what aspects it's making) is especially worth paying attention to if that's your sign.
On this site, every sign's page lists its ruling planet, and the daily horoscope pipeline specifically checks that planet's position and aspects when writing that sign's forecast.
